Michael The dog has glowing eyes. The songs are glowing too with magical juju. If you've ever been collecting lizard 🦎 scales for Lena you can appreciate that Mother Reptiles are the big bosses. You can't keep messing around with tiny reptiles without tangling with the big one. The songs are a bit like if Dave Matthews Band goes experimental. There's melody and instrumentation. It reminds me of other stuff too. Favorite track: Into the Mouth of the Moon.

1.
in my dreams I see you since you left I seem to sleep so deep I don't wake up my eyes close so easy most days flow right through me the lights go floating by between the nights in the future sleep is sequenced through computers dreams are harvested for sacred knowledge far across the cosmos we remember both directions the next step in evolution is to sleep instead of suffer when that flying saucer touches down upon my rooftop I'll be wide awake and ready for them whatever their intentions toward this world
2.
my dreams are over in the morning the movie fades into the sky now and then I wake up feeling tired and someone else is looking through my eyes someone else is talking through my voice he tells you things I couldn't say now and then he reaches for the wheel sometimes I believe he knows the way into the mouth of the moon we fall at the edge of the echo, a face in the window shatter the pattern and shoulder the shadow carry it all up over the wall out of the cogs of the clock we crawl swallow the surface, deepen the distance pick up the slack where the slope is too steep now step to the end, don't let it begin again sleep is our only mode of travel though our destination is unknown together we can wake up in the future unafraid of waking up alone let me get some sleep time to sleep now lay my head upon your breast I am weary, let me rest
3.
Lights Out 05:10
I can hear you laughing in your sleep between your breathing starts and stops the rhythm rises, floats, and falls I roll over toward the wall the dog is dreaming on the floor I watch the crack beneath the door and every breath I take reminds me I'm awake reminds me I'm alive it reminds me every night we lie down in the dark and keep quiet then we settle out of sight so it goes, the loop is closed and only broken open by the light afraid to fade to black 'til my eyes roll back and every breath I take reminds me I'm awake forever and again to step around the bend time is not a friend sleep is not the end please don't ever wake me up I was made to stay asleep much longer deeper and deeper into the ether please don't ever wake me up I was made to stay asleep forever deeper and deeper into the ether
4.
lay down my darlin' let your eyelids slide closed in the crackle of the static as the fabric unfolds adrift on a golden ocean beneath a white spiral sky I shrink into the distance and bid you goodbye for only you make me feel like a wave that could break through the wheel and roll around the bend and down the divide swim down to the bottom and up through the other side lay down my darlin' in the peaceful dark deep free from all evil in the sweetness of sleep I'll await you down below the top of that distant plateau sail through the moonlight to the top of the hill where she sinks into the ceiling pulled through the hole she won't fill lay down my darlin' let your eyelids unfold the crack in the doorway is slidin' closed
5.
no sleep I try my thoughts do not subside taken by the tide they raise the waves I ride and leave me stranded on the wrong side I long to call it a day but I can't seem to find the way my body is trapped halfway my dreams await me deep in outer space but I cannot find the exit from this place I'll learn to wait however long it takes no sleep I roll around my system won't shut down the signal doesn't stop the satellite goes spinning like a top it slows but does not drop the bed rejects my bones I lie awake alone stranded on a planet of my own no sleep I tried my mind is completely deeply fried it's getting light outside another day draws near behold the glow of the celestial sphere we're all stranded here inside and running out of time go to sleep where do you hide why must I be denied my head is laid down upon the line how come I'm stranded on the wrong side
6.
Come to Bed 07:31
fade out your skeleton will tell you when to lay down zoom out concentric haloes ripple out of the moon blooming through the window across the room turning out of tune the silence weighs you down free fall the spiral steps descending bend around you the clock continues ticking on without you come to bed she said it's time to rest awhile and leave this world behind come to bed she said it's time to sleep awhile and leave the day behind the sky inside my head is getter darker all the time welcome to the world that waits to wake you good morning to babies who replace you falling through the future into bed together we can sleep until the end in between the sequence I can see myself sliding off the shelf I hope to keep my health and every night I try my best to just let nature take its course defer the urge to search for the source I flap my wings against the sky to slow the windmills in my eyes and walk my will across the line when this world has run its course and the spaceships come to take what's left by force I hope to be the first to leave I hope at least we can get some sleep

EYEBALL PLANET is a song cycle exploring the mystical kingdom of sleep, floating up through the ceiling and into the beckoning glimmer of worlds beyond our own, reaching down to us through the long, black veil of the night sky.

This is not mind-quieting music to help you drift off... it’s more a diorama of insomnia, mapping out a bleary, wavering state of consciousness I've come to know well. The songs were built to reflect this headspace - melancholy lullabies charged with restless physicality, crystallized in rock candy smears of sonic ornamentation, buried under an obliterating psychic fog.

The album features 22 musicians working from 12 different countries between 5 different continents. All collaborated through remote overdubs, incrementally building their ideas into dense, largely improvised arrangements which I assembled, reshaped, and refined along the way.

Sleep connects us to the cyclical nature of existence - death, afterlife, and rebirth collapsed into one. It connects us all together, sharing the universal journey out of our bodies to wherever it is we go. I find it an endlessly compelling mystery of life… a mystery that looms larger the longer I stay awake.

Prolonged insomnia is a journey unto itself. Exhaustion floods the mind, bending time and distorting patterns of thought. Psychic debris spills over from the dream realm, slipping in and out of physical awareness. Senses dissolve into otherworldly murmuring, echoes from the ethereal unreality behind the curtain. I try to lie in peace, half-watching the light change outside the window with my eyes closed.

I can feel the insomnia prying open a door inside my head. This album is a sketch of the view through the doorway.

EYEBALL PLANET was recorded and assembled between late fall of 2020 and early spring of 2023. Please see below for an in-depth listing of instrumentation and personnel. My deepest thanks to everyone involved for their beautiful work on this project.

Thanks for listening, nighty night.
